In the female elite Becky Mates racing in the Torq colours for the first time smashed the field in a dominant display of riding to win the Gold Medal. In the male elite it was a hard battle between 2 www.ftptraining.com riders Josh Carlson of Roackstar Racing and Ben Henderson of Torq/Anytime Fitness.
A battle royal unfolded with uber fast and consistent laps, with Ben finally gaping Josh with just over a lap to go and eventually winning by just over a minute. In the under 17 men Jack Lavis dominated with very fast lap times that would have seen him right up there in any of the categories to bring home the State Champs. Well done guys a great weekend of racing and a good sign of things to come in the last few months of 2010 and into 2011.
As the local A Grade road race champion from 2009 I thought it best to try and defend my title and lined up with 20 or so riders for the Club Champs over the 110km MR92 course in Nowra. A great race unfolded with a determined effort by Rob Rix who broke away early with another rider for over 75km only to be reeled in towards the end.
Damo Mason put up a great fight and we bridged the gap with about 25km to go. I took a flier with 15km to go and managed to solo away for the win. With the ride there and back home it ended up a 160km+ day for me and great prep for the upcoming Highland Fling 100 miler.
Cheers
